Contests & Exhibits

Scarecrows and vegetables and chickens–oh my! These plus many other creatures and creations are on display for visitors to enjoy at the 90th Annual Tri-County Fair. You can also test your skill or simply enjoy watching some good old-fashioned, good-natured competitions.
An integral part of the region, the fair celebrates the joys, skill, and hard work of farming, quilting, gardening, riding, cooking, and other arts and crafts.
More than 300 exhibition and competition categories cover a wide range of agricultural and homemaking arts.

Here is an overview of some of this year’s exhibits, events, and competitions. For more detailed information, refer to the Premium List in the Fair Program. Programs may be obtained at local business establishments throughout the tri-county area.

Domestic Arts and Crafts
Showcasing everything from floral arrangements. baked goods, quilting and candlemaking to pottery, canning, and woodwork, the fair’s domestic arts and crafts exhibits are sure to be a hit. Be sure to check them out. Categories include: Canning; Baking; Fine Arts; Weaving/Basketry/Woodwork; Flowers; Hobbies/ Crafts; and Needlework plus many more.

Live Animals
With tiny chicks, hefty heifers, and plenty of other creatures great and small, the fair is alive with animals of all shapes and sizes. You’re sure to enjoy watching the best of the best walk off with cash prizes and blue ribbons in the Show Ring. Check out the competition ring or meander through the barn to view other fine two- and four-legged animals. A partial listing follows.

CATTLE From Angus to Hereford, from Charolais to Limousin, the tri-county's beef cattle draw admiring glances.

SHEEP Half a dozen breeds fill the sheep pens.  They are Chevoit, Columbia, Dorset, Hampshire, Suffolk and all other breeds.

SWINE Our swine entries continue to grow each year.  Come see the prize swine and even take one home from the market sale.

GOATS New this year!  These cute creatures are sure to be a hit!  Come see who takes the first prize in this new category.

HORSE SHOW Equestrians of all ages gather at the fair’s Open Horse Show, Saturday, Jul. 31st. Riders of both English and Western disciplines, juniors (age 17 and under) and adults are invited to show in over five dozen classes.  There is also a Junior Horse Show open to 4H and FFA Members on Saturday, Aug. 7.

Farm Products
Growers are again welcomed at the fair. A Fruits & Vegetables competition has more than 100 classes for everything from apples and pears to strawberries, squash, tomatoes, peppers, beans and oh so much more. Ribbons will be awarded for the best in many categories.

Special Exhibits and Events
ART SHOW From photography to watercolor and oil to mixed media come enjoy the artwork from our area artists.  You will be amazed at the local talent.

ART CONTEST Children can pick up a coloring sheet for a coloring contest at any Summit Community Bank branch location or download it here.  Older children can create their own for a Fun Day at the Fair.  Entiries need to be returned to any Summit Branch location by July 25th.

FAMILY PET SHOW This is a show sure to please everyone.  From dogs and cats to reptiles and birds bring your pet and enter this year's pet show and claim your prize. Many prizes will be awarded from best looking to largest from most personality to best tail wagger.  

LAMB COSTUME CONTEST Is it Batman?  I think it's Spiderman?  No it's Spongebob.  No silly it's a lamb in cosutme.  Dress your lamb up and bring them to the fair for the Lamb Costume Contest.  This is a hit every year.  Don't forget your camera!

THE TRI-COUNTY STAR "BEST OF THE BEST"
In honor of the 90th anniversary of the Tri-County Fair the Tri-County Fiar Star contest will feature something new this year.  "The Best of the Best" Contest will be held on Wednesday night at 8pm or following the parade whichever comes first.  All of the available winners from the past four years will be competing for the title of "The Best of the Best" Tri-County Fair Star.  Easch contestant from the duet winners, age 21 and younger winners or over 21 winners will be singing two songs.

MUTIN BUSTIN Think you've seen it all?  Wait until you see this.  Put a kid on the back of a sheep and tell them to hold on for dear life and you've got a show.  See who can last the longest and get the prize!
